Which, if either is the correct way type someone’s thoughts in italics? With the dash or without and do I end with a period?

A- John reaches for a hammer. – Say something else about her

B- John reaches for a hammer. Say something else about her.

Generally, you can use an M-dash or a period (never use both). In your example, I would use a period, no M-dash, and end the thought with a period. So, example B is correct.
Writers tend to over-use M-dashes, and it looks terrible when the book is laid out. You want to try to limit M-dashes to no more than two per page if possible. My general rule is: never use an M-dash when a period or comma will do. Sometimes, it just has to be an M-dash, and that's fine.

Thanks for the reply. Others have suggested that I simply use 'quotes' scu as:

"You know I'm right, say so."
"We'll do it your way. Stop bitching." 'Even though you are not right. '

Better method or not?

Thanks agian
